Building and developing homes
To date, we have developed 350 affordable homes for rental and low cost sale through new build, conversion and acquisition. We aim to provide a minimum of 50 new homes per year so welcome approaches from businesses, landowners and other interested parties who may wish to help us achieve our objectives.
Eden Housing Association works with a number of partners and authorities to secure new and refurbished affordable homes for rural and market town communities in Cumbria. We also manage the property and development portfolio for Mitre Housing Association throughout the county. We work closely with the district Councils, Parish Councils and Cumbria County Council to meet the housing needs of these communities.
Because of our location, we also work closely with the Lake District National Park Authority and pride ourselves on the quality of design. Our Pooley Bridge scheme was visited by HRH Prince Charles in 2006 and has been included in HRH Prince Charles’ design guide 'A Sense of Place'. We have also won design awards for schemes in Appleby and Penrith.
The Homes and Communities Agency is one of our key partners for securing funding for new schemes, but when funding is unavailable, we always try to find innovative ways to resource developments ourselves. The York Street development in Penrith is one such success; the outright sale of 9 properties funded the development of the remaining 17 affordable homes for part ownership.
