Community Development

People are the heart of the community

EHA recognises that we are all part of the wider community and we believe we have an important role to play in helping to build and maintain safe, happy and neighbourly communities. We have a Community Development Team who assist communities and groups throughout Eden District. The work undertaken is varied; depending on the needs of the communities we are working with, for example:

• Supporting the Brough community in the building of a play area
• Working with Tenants and Residents at Kirkby Thore to turn a dilapidated garage site into a widely used green space
• Working in Alston on a range of projects alongside Eden Youth Work Partnership
• Bringing computer technology to our Supported Housing Schemes, and providing appropriate training and support
• Starting a “Dreamscheme” project in Kirkby Stephen. This is based on the principle of “work, points and trips” where young people earn rewards for carrying out community-based activities
• Seasonal craft sessions for older residents
