Community Development

People are the heart of the community

EHA recognises that we are all part of the wider community and we believe we have an important role to play in helping to build and maintain safe, happy and neighbourly communities. We have a Community Development Team who assist communities and groups throughout Eden District. The work undertaken is varied; depending on the needs of the communities we are working with, for example: 

• Running training to give tenants the skills they need to manage their homes.
• Working in Alston and Kirkby Stephen on a range of projects to engage Young People alongside Eden Youth Work Partnership
• Supporting our tenants in delivering their own projects such as a community garden in Alston and community-led play area in Cliburn.
• Running a “Dreamscheme” project in Kirkby Stephen. This is based on the principle of “work, points and trips” where young people earn rewards for carrying out community-based activities
• Organising community litter picking events to bring people of all ages together and help make their neighbourhoods nicer places to live.
