Telecare

Telecare – the advanced monitoring service for your home

Telecare is the new name for a more advanced community alarm service that is available across the whole of Cumbria. It provides a more advanced service than the Community Alarm service that is currently available. This type of support is ideal for people struggling to cope, for those regularly admitted to hospital or for people with dementia, memory loss and other long term conditions.

How does it work?

Community Alarms plug in to your telephone line and come with a call button that you can attach to your clothing. You can use the button from anywhere in your home or garden to summon help.

Telecare can have more sensors than the current Community Alarm system so it can also detect things like:

  • Fire and smoke
  • Extreme heat
  • Carbon Monoxide and natural gas
  • Flooding
  • Bogus callers

It also has the advantage of being able to monitor movement so it can detect where you are in your home – beneficial if you have stopped moving, have had a fall, gone outside or have been in bed or sitting in a chair for a long period. These are just a few examples of how it can help.

Calling for help

What makes this service different from a community alarm is the fact that the sensors can be set up to alert the monitoring centre if there is a problem in your home so they can take follow up action to get you the most appropriate assistance.

Eden Housing Association works in partnership with Cumbria County Council and Adult Social Care to provide this service which is available to all people living in Eden Housing Association and Mitre Housing Association properties.

A full assessment of needs is carried out for the individual to ensure the appropriate sensors are installed, providing a safer environment for people to stay in their own homes.
